          FACTS ABOUT PEARLS...........

Pearl fact 1 - Pearls are the only gemstone made by living animals.
Pearl fact 2 - Harvesting pearls from mollusks does not kill the animals, as they can be re-implanted and used to make more pearls.
Pearl fact 3 - Akoya, or saltwater pearls come from oysters, but freshwater pearls usually come from mussels, although all mollusks can make pearls.
Pearl fact 4 - Pearls take their color from the inside of the shell in which they are growing. They range from white to gold, and from purple to black.
Pearl fact 5 - Virtually all pearls today are "cultured" or "cultivated". Harvesting "natural" pearls was compromised by water pollution, tsunamis, and other phenomena that made it difficult to leave the oysters safely in the water long enough to grow sizeable pearls.
Pearl fact 6 - Every pearl is unique. No two are alike, and all have some imperfections.
Pearl fact 7 - The oldest known pearl jewelry fragment was found in the sarcophagus of a Persian princess who died in 520 BC.
Pearl fact 8 - Cleopatra won a bet that she could provide Marc Antony with a banquet costing more than the assets of a country. She took off a pearl earring, dissolved it in wine and drank it.
Pearl fact 9 - Pearl farming is know as "Periculture."
Pearl fact 10 - In 1916, Jacques Cartier bought his 5th Avenue store by trading two pearl necklaces for the land.

SIDDHARTHA GAUTAMA

Siddhartha Gautama, the man who became known as Buddha, could have led a comfortable, carefree life. But he devoted himself to a search for truth and understanding so that he could help end the suffering of other people.

Late in life, Gautama was given the name Buddha, which means “enlightened one.” Buddha was considered enlightened because he had gained understanding of spiritual matters. His teachings form the basis of Buddhism, one of the world's major religions.

Buddha was born around 563 BC in Nepal. His family were nobles and warriors. They wanted him to be a warrior, too. But from childhood, Buddha was quiet and thoughtful. He did not like the privileged life at his father’s palace. He found it dull. So he began to wander around the countryside, thinking deeply about the right way to live.

DISNEYLAND

Disneyland was the first Disney theme park. It opened in Anaheim, California, in 1955. Disneyland was created by cartoonist Walt Disney. He invented Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, and many other cartoon characters. Walt Disney died in 1966. The company he founded runs the theme parks.
Walt Disney wanted rides at Disneyland to be like stepping into a fantasy world. You can ride around and around in a giant teacup at the Mad Tea Party. It’s borrowed from the Mad Hatter’s party in Alice in the Wonderland. You can fly through the air on the Dumbo the Flying Elephant ride. You can glide in a boat and watch pirates fight in the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction. You can ride an old-time train around the park. You can stroll down Main Street, an old-time town display. You can also stay at Disneyland hotels.
